"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that"

So, I am thinking a lot about M.L. King Day. In our District, we get the day off and it allows me to reflect upon the legacy of a true legend. I know actions speak much louder than words but his words still remain so powerful today. As I continued to tile in the bathroom (yes, the summer project still continues), my mind kept dancing around what I have come to know about Dr. King, a speech in Detroit, bravery, selflessness, humanity, nature, courage, actions, and etc.

These thoughts continued to linger as I attended a program in Macomb County to celebrate this day. That is when the inspirations for this post hit me. One of the students that was reading a short essay and emphasized a Dr. King quote, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that."

You see, teachers provide the light! Dr. King's words and actions were teaching the world. He was providing light. As teachers, we do the same. We provide the light though our content, but maybe more importantly through our person, our smile, our encouragement, our creativity, our consistency, our passion, our consequence, our attitude, our compassion, our joys, and our sorrows. It is this light that sews the world together. Light is learning and learning chases away the darkness known as ignorance!

Have a great week and keep spreading the light!

Mike
