How does this count?

At the end of the school year, many educators are stressed about their evaluation.  For many years so was I and I have spent a lot of time reflecting on what counts and what is never documented.  After nearly 30 years in the classroom, I cannot remember one students extending a sincere thanks for a great assessment that was given or how rewarding it was to bomb a pre-test but ace the same at the end of a unit.  How does that count? Maybe on your evaluation.

On the other hand, I can remember many genuine thanks regarding motivating students and inspiring personal growth (see above). How do you count something that cannot be quantified or neatly measured?

As the year draws to an end, thanks for inspiring another year of students.  Know that your efforts may not appear on your evaluation but the personal growth you are stimulating will carry the day.

That's what counts!
